This is a portrait of Daryl, my Creative Director at work! I'll be showing this to him tomorrow! Hope he likes it. I think it turned out really Tolkein-y.
Wow! Carrie this is amazing!! Fantastic job! I don't know your co-worker so hard to say on the reference but his face definitely looks like someone that I could recognize if I saw them. Nice expression as well. As always, I love your little details...your costumes are always great, all those little touches that make the image really special! I think you've done great on the fabric textures, metal textures, etc.. The light on the top of the cape is especially well done and I like how you have the red glow of the sword touching and defining the folds inside it. I only have two suggestions. First, I think the cape would be a little more shadowed directly behind his legs and calves, secondly, although I love the textured background, I think he would stand out more if you put the area where the back wall meets the ground, and around behind his feet in shadow. I think it would make for a bit more drama. I love the Tolkien-esque writing around the archway as well, so I would have that still visible....I just think it would help if there was more darkness towards the ground. Lovely work as always...I can't say enough good things about it really. I bet your co-worker loves it!!
Oh, I love this! Also, I think the magic or enchantment coming off of the blade, I think it would look beautiful in a metalic blue. But I love it anyways!

"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible."
